UNS — A number of students from Sebelas Maret University (UNS) Surakarta who are members of a Student Creativity Program-Entrepreneurship (PKM-K) team based on the Faculty of Teacher Training & Education (FKIP) proposed the idea of a serial T-shirt for Indonesian endemic fauna comics based on character smart cards. The shirt was formed as a solution to the literacy battle and the idea successfully passed the PKM bonus based on the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, & Technology (Kemendikbudristek) for the 2021 rule year.

This team consists of Sony Baroo Amirulloh based on the Fine Arts Education Study Program, Siti Fatimah & Azzahra Nurhidayati Ni’mah based on the Indonesian Language & Literature Education Study Program (PBSI), and Ersa Arifyanti based on the Guidance & Counseling Study Program (BK). They were guided by Endri Sintiana Murni, S.Pd., M.Pd., as a Lecturer in Fine Arts Education. Sony said that the background of the idea they carried out was the anxiety that was felt due to the criminal act of buying and selling rare endemic animals that were threatened with extinction.

“Indonesia is a country rich in biodiversity, one of which is endemic animals. Its uniqueness and uniqueness is the main attraction. However, this also provokes the illegal actions of irresponsible individuals who trade and buy endangered animals, thereby threatening their extinction,” explained Sony a few moments ago.

They were inspired to make endemic animals as objects of character education for children, as well as provide knowledge about one of Indonesia’s wealth, namely endemic animals. This idea also supports digital literacy by utilizing technological advances and realizing student creative efforts. From the ideas that have been proposed, Sony and his friends managed to package the idea into a quality comic t-shirt and character smart card for educational comics for endemic characters and animals that can be accessed via mobile phones.

“There are two outputs, namely quality comic t-shirts and character smart card comics for character education and education for endemic animals that can be accessed through gadgets,” explained Sony.

With this product, Sony and his team are targeting children from Kindergarten (TK) to Elementary School (SD) as marketing targets.

“Our product marketing targets start from kindergarten to elementary school children with marketing through parents,” said Sony.

Sony added that the benefits of the products produced are to help children, parents, teachers, and the government in an effort to instill character education and provide knowledge to children about endemic animals through fun media.

“The benefits of helping children, parents, teachers, and the government in an effort to instill character education and knowledge in children about Indonesia’s wealth, especially endemic animals through fun media,” said Sony. UNS Public Relations
